New shirts

Hello,

Even though I have not been posting I have been crafting. With mothers day, work and starting my 1/2 marathon training I have been a little overwhelmed. After making a shirt for Top week I became very interested in making some shirts for myself, since this time last year I was expecting I am low on the shirt department.

I used two different patterns for these shirts. They came out pretty good. The green top pattern was only 3.99, the other one was 7.00.

I did make another shirt with a free pattern off line, but I liked it so much that I wore it on mothers day and was still in the wash when I took pictures. I will share it after it is clean.

I got the best mothers day gift, adjustable dress form. Unfortunately it is on back order...I am so excited to get it in the mail, especially since I have started to make some things for myself.

Up until last week I could not leave comments on blogspot blogs that did not have a pop up options.

So after a lot of research I finally found out why and thought I would share because it really frustrated me. When I looked in help they just kept telling me to change my comment to a pop up, but not how to comment on other blogs.

So here you go...

1. go to tools
2. pick options
3. pick privacy
4. check -accept third party cookies

This seems to happen if you are using fire fox

Pacifier tip

I really tried to get my kids to take a Binky and it was a no go. For each kid I went to the store and bought every single orthopedic Binky/pacifier I could find. The closest I came was with Savannah and she chose the button type for about 2 weeks.

So I needed to come up with a solution for a Binky clip (or so I thought). But the rubber O ring worked really well.

I am not going to do a tutorial on a pacifier/Binky clip because there are plenty. But I will show you what I did with the O ring.

Not sure what I meant by button Binky??
(I didn't know they had a separate name)

A regular Binky leash

I wanted white, but couldn't find it, so black it is
(Rubber is the key)

Put leash around O ring and snap shut

Stretch O ring around Binky

New dress for me

After doing the black shirt last week, I wanted to try it with better fabric, but make it different. So I thought maybe a dress? I was looking for more of an everyday summer dress.

I finished it and I am not sure it came out like I wanted. To me it looks more like a night out on the town type of dress. From the front it looks pretty good. But from the back, now that's a different story. It looks pretty good on the dress form, however on me...my butt looks sooo big. I know it's big, but not that big.

It's not uneven, just the way I am standing.

Any thought's what I could do so it doesn't end up int scrap pile. I really would like to wear this. Maybe after I finish my 1/2 marathon training that I started this week.?

Summer hat

With the warmer months coming and Savannah being so fair skinned I need a new summer hat, one that would also shade her eyes. I got lucky because on one of the link up party's Natalie from Our Old Souther House posted about a bonnet she made for her little one. I absolutely loved it. The only thing I did different was use Velcro, but I will be taking that off and just tying it for now.

It is big on her, but hey she is growing fast!

Ruffled hat Tutorial

I was recently asked for a Tutorial on the ruffled hat I made here. I tried to write on the photo as I went, but I don't like how that came out. So I will write under the picture instead. The white hat was made with a white men's t-shirt, which gives you a lot more stretch then the tank I chose for this pink one.

I traced an old hat and added a little to each side and height because it was for 0-6 months. I folded that pattern in half

Grab an old t-shirt

make sure all ends are even, fold the t-shirt over and place pattern piece on top, on fold. If you do it this way both piece will be cut out at the same time

after you cut out this is what you have

cut 1.5 in strips out of the rest of the shirt

All the strips cut

Sew down middle of each strip

Find the bobbin thread and Pull, scrunching fabric to get the ruffles

Starting at bottom use zig zag stitch, slightly stretch the hat part as you sew, so you don't loose the stretch in the hat

All ruffles sewn to hat pieces

Lay right sides together and sew using zig zag stitch, slightly stretching again

Trim around seam

Turn right side out.
All done!
